Turquia: Monte Nemrut / Turkey: Nemrut Dağ

Turquia: Monte Nemrut

At the top of Mount Nemrut are the ruins of the tomb of King Antiochus I (or Antiochus Theos), one of the kings of the small Hellenistic State of Comagena.
This funerary monument, World Heritage Site, was built with large slabs of stone and in a pyramidal format.
The east and west platforms of the hill, forming the base of the tomb, are open-air temples with statues of lions, eagles and colossal statues of gods and King Antiochus, seated on thrones, whose names are inscribed in Persian and Greek.
Most are extraordinarily well preserved, even decapitated, with their heads on the ground.
Arranged in the same way on both platforms, they correspond to the statues of the gods:
Apollo-Mitras, Zeus-Oromasdes, the half-god Hercules-Artagnes, the goddess Comagena-Tique and King Antiochus of Comagena.

Crimeia: Cidade Antiga de Queroneso e sua Chora / Crimea: Ancient City of Tauric Chersonese and its Chora

Crimea: Ancient City of Tauric Chersonese and its Chora

I decided to use the name Crimea, politics aside, it is on the Crimean Peninsula that lies the ancient Tauric Chersonese City. If it belongs to Ukraine or if it belongs to Russia, I leave that with them ... but it's listed as a World Heritage Site in Ukraine.
Geography aside, let's focus on this wonderful place.

The site comprehends the Polis (City) and its Chora (rural space that surrounds the polis).
Its ruins provide an excellent physical testimony of the interaction between the Greek, Roman and Byzantine empires and the populations to the north of the Black Sea.
It stands out for having been continuously a center of exchange of influences between these cultures for a long time and with continuity over the millennia.
The Chora represents a vast agricultural landscape, where well-preserved vestiges were found, of the land's layout in hundreds of rectangular parcels, equal in area, and where the cultivation of vines was made.
The remnants of the divisions, fortifications, farms and the characteristic grid scheme demonstrate the lifestyles of the city's inhabitants and illustrate the agricultural use and continuity of the landscape in spite of subsequent changes in production.

Barém: Indústria Perlífera Tradicional, Testemunho de uma Economia Insular / Bahrain: Pearling, Testimony of an Island Economy

Bahrain: Pearling, Testimony of an Island Economy

The island of Al Muharraq is the last remaining complete example of the pearl extraction industry and the wealth it generated when this economy dominated the Gulf.
It also represents an admirable example of the traditional use of marine resources and human interaction with the environment, which has led to the progress of the island's economy and cultural identity.
This World Heritage Site comprises several city buildings (shops, houses and others), marine oyster banks, a segment of the island's coastline, a mosque and a fortress.
